iON Slit Lamp Imaging System
Slit lamp imaging without the cart of equipment
The iON replaces the traditional photo slit lamp setup (camera, adapter, computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse and the cables between them) with an intra-optics beam splitter and Apple hardware. It is compatible with most parallel-style slit lamps from the major manufacturers, not only Marco's, and it is modular and affordable enough that practices tend to buy one per room rather than one for the practice.
What it does
- Intra-optics beam-splitter, adapter and mount
- Built on Apple imaging technology with heads-up display controls
- Replaces the camera, adapter, computer, monitor and cabling of a traditional photo slit lamp
- Compatible with most parallel-style slit lamps from major manufacturers
- Patient education via Apple TV or other mirroring technology
- NAVIS-EX networked image management with integration to most EMR vendors
- Modular and affordable enough to equip multiple exam rooms
Is it right for your practice?
Best fit
Practices that want anterior segment documentation in every room, not only in the one room that has the photo slit lamp.
Why consider it
Documentation that lives in one room gets used when someone remembers to walk the patient down the hall. Documentation in every room gets used. The iON replaces the camera, adapter, computer, monitor and cabling of a traditional photo slit lamp with an intra-optics beam splitter and Apple hardware, and it is modular enough to fit more than one lane rather than one dedicated photo room. A Marco customer testimonial describes using the iON for billable pathology documentation and for handoffs between doctors on complicated cases. Coding, medical necessity, payer coverage and documentation requirements vary by practice and by patient, so treat that as one practice's experience and not as a billing result you can assume. Patient education is the third use and the one patients tend to notice. NAVIS-EX handles image management and integrates with most EMR vendors.
What to compare
It works on most parallel-style slit lamps from major manufacturers, including ones you already own, so the comparison is usually against a conventional photo slit lamp rather than against another add-on. If you only need documentation in one room and already have a photo slit lamp that works, this changes nothing for you. Its argument is per-room coverage. If you want retinal documentation and not anterior segment, this is not the right fit; compare the AFC-330 or the iCare cameras instead.
