iCare EIDON UWF Retinal Imaging

The iCare EIDON with the Ultra-Widefield Module images up to 200 degrees of retina, capturing the posterior pole through to the periphery in an automated session. Its confocal optical engine pairs with a white LED covering the visible spectrum, which is what produces TrueColor images with colors close to reality rather than the shifted palette of conventional flash photography. The 14 megapixel sensor resolves 15 µm on the retina. It works non-mydriatically through pupils as small as 2.5 mm and images through cataract, and it runs from fully automatic to fully manual depending on how much the operator wants to control. TrueColor, infrared, autofluorescence and, on the FA model, fluorescein angiography are all available at the wider field. For practices managing diabetic retinopathy, AMD or glaucoma, or building a wellness imaging program.

WidefieldTrueColorConfocal

What it does

  • TrueColor confocal technology: white LED with a confocal optical engine
  • 14 megapixel sensor (4608 × 3288) at 15 µm optical resolution on the retina
  • 90° single shot and up to 160° mosaic standard; 120° single shot and up to 200° mosaic with the optional UWF Module
  • Non-mydriatic through pupils as small as 2.5 mm
  • TrueColor, infrared and blue fundus autofluorescence; fluorescein angiography on the FA model
  • RGB channel separation and Stereo Viewer technology for disc assessment
  • Automatic operation: auto-alignment, auto-focus, auto-exposure, auto-capture, auto-mosaic, or fully manual
  • JPEG and PDF export, DICOM optional; browser-based Remote Viewer over LAN

Is it right for your practice?

Best fit

Retina, glaucoma, medical optometry and comprehensive practices that want wide retinal coverage and confocal color fidelity for everyday documentation or disease management.

Why consider it

Most retinal cameras use flash photography, which scatters in media opacities and shifts color. The EIDON's confocal engine and TrueColor illumination hold up through cataract and small pupils, and a published three-device comparison found it had the most balanced RGB distribution of the ultra-widefield cameras tested.

What to compare

Ultra-widefield coverage requires the optional UWF Module, which changes both the configuration and the working distance in the lane. If you do not need widefield, the DRSplus shares the same confocal engine at a narrower field and a lower investment; the difference is field of view, not image quality.

Ask me about

Whether the base EIDON or the UWF configuration matches your case mix, what the module does to lane space, and how it compares against the DRSplus for what you actually photograph.
